Business Continuity Management Consulting Services

Business Continuity Management system is a structured management process that assists organizations in identifying potential adverse events and their corresponding impact that threaten the continuity of operations. The management system provides a framework for building resilience and the capability to respond to adverse events in a planned manner.

The BCM process ensures that the interests of its key stakeholders including the reputation, brand and value creating activities are sustained even in case of adverse events. Business Continuity is considered an integral part of good business practices and corporate governance.

The BCM consulting from SecurEyes is provided in the following modes based on the requirements of the customer:

  • Designing and Implementing of new BCM initiatives
  • Review and improvement of existing BCM
  • Assessment and Audit of existing BCM

Our overall flow for BCM design & implementation project is as follows:

  • Initiation & Planning
  • Business Impact Analysis
  • Risk Assessment
  • Development of BC Strategy
  • Development of BC & DR Plans
  • Testing BC Plans
  • Review and Improve

The details of the above steps are as follows:

1. Initiation and Planning

Our team prepares a detailed BCM project plan so that all stakeholders are aware of their respective responsibilities - it clearly prescribes who is responsible for which task and by when the task is to be completed. In addition, we conduct an in-person workshop with all key-stakeholders to clearly develop a consensus on the work-plan.

2. Business Impact Analysis (BIA)

The Business Impact Analysis is a structured process that assists the organization in

  • Defining the key activities (processes) that support the provision of Business Services along with prioritization of such activities.
  • Assess the impact and effects on the organization due to loss, interruption or disruption of these processes/activities.
  • Discuss among key stakeholders to set prioritized time frames for resuming these activities (RTO/RPO).
  • Identify dependencies (internal or external) for successful resumption of processes.
  • Identify all the types of Resources Required for recovery.
  • Benchmark the Recovery parameters for the organization: Maximum Tolerable Period of Disruption (MTPD), Recovery Time (RTO), Point (RPO) Objectives.

3. Risk Assessment

  • Identify Risks of Disruption to prioritized processes, activities, services, resources, dependencies etc
  • Systematically Analyse risk (impact/probability)
  • Evaluate risks requiring treatment
  • Identify treatment options with respect to BCM Objectives, commitments
  • Deploy control measures to mitigate such risks

4. Develop BC Strategy

Based on the context of the organization and its maturity, the BC recovery strategies are identified and evaluated for implementation. This step aims to design & document the recovery solutions and plans (e.g. Cold, Warm, Hot recovery sites)

5. Develop BC & DR Plans

The next logical step is to document the Business continuity Plans for each business unit and corresponding processes. The following is considered when forming the Business Continuity Plan(s) at division/department level: Resources Required for recovery (People, Technology, Stationary, Communication equipment, Recovery sites, Logistics, etc), Roles & responsibilities of people during BC, Process Flow, Communications-Public relations & the media, etc.

As part of the BC plan, the following are also documented: Incident Management Plan(s) at company level, Crisis Management Plan at company level, Emergency Response plan, etc.

6. Testing BC Plans

The most important part of ensuring that the organization is capable of utilizing its BCM plans, when actually needed, is to test the plan based on appropriate scenarios at periodic intervals. The testing of BC plan ensures that appropriate rehearsal of staff and BCM teams is done to acclimatize them of the nuances of an adverse event. The testing of BC plans includes the business process recovery test along with technology and systems that are needed for ensuring continuity of business (and IT).

7. Review and Improve

Based on the results of the BCP testing, we assist the organization in improving their business continuity processes and practices. A cycle of testing and continual improvement ensures that the maturity of the organization's business continuity management system and its resilience gradually increases. Additionally, any changes in the organization context or structure or processes are considered and incorporated in the BCM system of the organization during the review and improvement exercise.
